It was also Microsoft’s smallest and lightest laptop at just 2.45 pounds, and it was clearly designed as a Chromebook killer. The original Surface Laptop Go was Microsoft’s most affordable Surface Laptop, imitating what the company did with its Surface Go tablets. These more expensive configurations should be priced at $699 and $899, matching the current Surface Laptop Go SKU list. Microsoft should once again offer two better-specced models with 8GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of faster SSD storage, and a fingerprint sensor. The base model is expected to keep its 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage as well as its $549 price point. Under the hood, the Surface Laptop Go 2 should replace the Intel 10th generation i5 CPUs in the original Surface Laptop Go with newer 11th-gen Core i5 CPUs. However, the addition of a backlit keyboard isn’t confirmed yet. The successor to the low-cost Surface Laptop Go, which was released back in October 2020, is expected to be an iterative update with a minor spec bump and no design changes.Īccording to Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, the Surface Laptop Go 2 will “feature the same 12.4-inch screen size, same ports, thickness, chassis, and materials as the first generation did.” Bowden also reported that Microsoft may introduce a new “Sage” finish that would join the existing Platinum, Ice Blue, and Sandstone options. Microsoft is reportedly planning to release a new Surface Laptop Go 2 later this spring.
